London Calling :- El Vergel, Latin American Food

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

The office mates wanted to make sure we try some of the best food around the office before we go back and the first item on this weeks list was a Latin American place. I ordered churrasco queso, which is basically rump steak, melted cheese and tomatoes in chilean village bread. They also had amazing soups and apparently the best cheesecakes though I was too full to try them. Its not a big place, so come early before the lunch time crowd gets there. There is not much seating capacity, but its worth waiting for a seat if you really have to. Yum.

Burn after reading :- A review

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Watched it in Edinburgh with my bro and Allan, and I loved it. Firstly its a dark comedy that kinda pokes fun at the lives of people who live in Washington, and maybe the state of mind of America at large. It has many sub stories that all kinda tie in neatly at the end. Don’t want to give away the plot, so I’ll just say it had a good ending for me. Brad Pitt plays somebody I actually like, which has not happen for a while now. George Clooney didn’t do half bad. Watch it!

Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels :- A Review

Tuesday, October 7th, 2008

Yet another British classic, this movie is a humours story of 4 young men living dodgy lives trying to make it big via a high stake poker game which leads to a series of extremly funny events. It is just so funny! Mostly filmed near Borough Market, where I eat my Lamb burgers :) this movie is a definate must see when doing a British Film marathon. My review 9.0 / 10.0

Layer Cake :- A Review

Monday, October 6th, 2008

One of the great British gangster films, Layer cake features Daniel Craig before he became Bond. This film revolves around Mr.X, and unamed drug dealer and his life in the different layers of the British underworld. Based on a novel with the same name, this film really entertaints and shows a very different side of Daniel Craigh. Its actually funny to watch this after you watch him as Bond, as there are some scenes that show his desire to play the legendary 007, or at least thats what I think. Anyways, I was hooked from the get go. It was part of my Sunday brit film fair, and I give this film 8.5 / 10.0.

My Blueberry Nights :- A review

Wednesday, September 10th, 2008

I watched this on the flight from KUL to Bahrain as most of the other movies showing I had already seen. I didn’t even read the article on the magazine which gave the highlights as I wanted to be entertained. As soon as the movie started I told myself, the main female lead role looked so familiar, but could not place her and at the end of the movie I realized she was Norah Jones, the Jazz artist. Norah did a good job as an actor I think. The movie is one of those artsy types, which allot of angle changes and different lighting, and I think it told the story very well. I enjoyed the diffent people Norah meets through the film, and of course the fact that it had Natalie Portman always helps! I was entertained, and I think it was a pretty good film.

Nicks Rating :- 8.2 / 10.0
