Nanxiang Steamed Bun Restaurant has been reconstracted and extended 3 times since 1991. The old restaurant has a new face now. It seems to get into an old and graceful pleasure boat when you set in the restaurant. The first floor is used as a kitchen and for steamed bun taking out. On the second floor, there are 3 dining halls, named “Chanfangting”, “ChanXinglou” and “Dingxinglou”, with characteristics decorations and elegant situation. Sitting on the comfortable seat, you will see both garden lanscape and metropolis sight through the windows. It is quite a good place for travel and cuisine enjoyment.

Yes, you can’t come to Shanghai and NOT eat the famous Nanxiang Steam Bun or called “SiewLongPow” by the locals. Its a smalled bun, which has either crabmeat, pork, or mushroom filling with allot of soup inside it. We had all 3 types, and I must say, it was worth the 30 minute wait just to get seated. The restaurant was jam packed, with a line about 50 people long to get a seat in the 3 dining halls. Even the take away line was about 40 people long. It took us about 34 minutes to be seated and not very long after we ordered the first batch of Buns arrived. The crab buns were nice, the Mushroom and pork buns were to die for!! When you bite into the bite sized bun, and the soup fills your mouth, oh, Rapture!!
They are not cheap though, Rm 1.50 for each bun, and even with 6 buns, I stil felt hungry as they are really bite sized. If you wanna feast on them, be prepared to spend at least RM40 per person.
