Wordless Wednesday : Just Hanging Around
Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008Dukkah

Nick and I discovered this little jewel in a remote town. We love it. Later we learned that Dukkah was made famous by Egyptian and Moroccan. Dukkah is often served together with olive oil and bread. Dip the bread into the oil and then the Dukkah before eating. Dukkah is a spice mix made from a base of nuts-often almond-with a selection of spices. It is toasted and ground to a coarse or fine texture depending on the individual preference. In Egypt, each house has its own version of Dukkah. Because there’s no set recipe, street vendors and domestic cooks alike guard their recipes closely. To make Dukkah, roast 100g almonds, and then separately roast 3 tsp coriander seeds with ½ tsp cumin seeds, 1 tsp pepper and 4 tsp sesame seeds. Using a mortar and pestle, grind the nuts and spices separately to a coarse meal. Mix together and season with a pinch of salt (2008 The Age).
Down-Under Dayz : Season Finale
Friday, May 16th, 2008And just like that, the 3 weeks in Australia ended before I even realized. To say I didn’t do much wouldn’t be true as Sara and I managed to cram allot of activities in those 3 weeks, and she didn’t skip any classes too! (Well, maybe one or 2 classes), but I digress. The last 2 days in Melbourne was spent mostly at home with Uncle and Aunty, who in all truth didn’t get to see much of us, as we were on the road for the better part of 2 weeks. We had dinner both nights, the first one at this Italian Chain restaurant called “Sophia’s”, which serves great food. The last night, we celebrated my farewell, Sara’s cousin’s Karen’s birthday and Mothers Day as well, at this Chinese Restaurant.
The next morning, early in the morning, Sara and I woke up and we left the house at about 6:30am. Uncle and Aunty woke up just to say goodbye to me, so touched. Then Sara drove me to the International Airport, and I checked in, and said goodbye to my Baby. Miss you soo much Sara!!
The flight back from Melbourne to Singapore was relatively empty and I got the entire row of seats in the middle of the plane to myself, which I really enjoyed. Before I knew it, the plane landed and I had to start my long wait for the next flight, Air Asia back to KL. It took forever, and I finally reached home around 11pm Malaysian time.
We was so blessed by God the entire trip. Everywhere We went, people were nice to Sara and Me. Even on the trip back, both the Singapore Airlines and Air Asia check in counters didn’t charge me for access baggage! God is Good! Its good to be home, but I miss Sara soooo much!!
Down-Under Dayz : Melbourne Zoo
Thursday, May 15th, 2008

I have been in Australia for 2 weeks and have not seen a live Kangaroo yet! I saw so many dead ones on the road that after our trip to Sydney, I needed to see a live one. I decided to visit the Melbourne Zoo. It cost me AUD 23 and its not far from Melbourne Uni where Sara studied. I took a tram there and within minutes I was snapping away. Most of the Zoo was not impressive, but the Ozzie Creature exhibition rocked. You can get close up to the roos and they just hop around you! I loved it!! It made it worth it!!
