Can you spot which one is her and which one is me? Haha. Memories man. There are a few shots here. Sekolah Menagah Laksamana Kota Tinggi Johor, from 1992 - 1993.
I’ve stolen this Tag from Wuching. So here goes.
Here’s the rules of the tag;
1. Go to www.popculturemadness.com
[done]
2. Select the year you turned 18
I was born 1976, therefore I turned 18 on 1994
3. Get all nostalgic over the songs of the year
Haha, I an always feeling nostalgic these days.
4. Write about it
Somehow to me 1994 doesn’t seem that long ago when I think about it. I was studying in Sedaya College, which back then was in Section 19, PJ. I had started college early that year, having just finished SPM, and I was a kampung boy living in the big city, really really feeling small. I had a good group of friends, some of which were also from small towns, others from KL, and we had a blast. Those were good times, college days.
What Songs where I remember the most from that year? Well, one of them was
BEAUTIFUL IN MY EYES (Joshua Kadison)
You’re my piece of mind, in this crazy world
You’re every thing I’ve tried to find
Your love is a pearl
You’re my Mona Lisa
You’re my rainbow skies
And my only prayer is that you realize
You’ll always be beautiful in my eyes…
The world will turn
And the seasons will change
And all the lessons we will learn
Will be beautiful and strange
We’ll have our fell of tears
Our share of sight
My only prayer is that you realize
You’ll always be beautiful in my eyes…
You will always be beautiful in my eyes
And the passing is the show
That you will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes
And there are lines upon my face
From a life time of smiles
When the time comes to embrace
For one long last wine
We can laugh about how time really flies
We won’t say goodbye
‘Cause true love never dies
You’ll always be beautiful in my eyes…
You will always be beautiful in my eyes
And the passing is the show
That you will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes
The passing is the show
That you will always grow
Ever more beautiful in my eyes…
I loved this song. I still do. They don’t make love songs like they used to do they? Actually, I find the older you go back, the more beautiful the love song is. Another Love song that will stick in my mind forever from back then is this one.
Stay : Lisa Loed & Nine Stories
You say I only hear what I want to
And you say I talk so all the time-so
And I thought what I felt was simple
And I thought that I don’t belong
And now that I am leaving
Now I know that I did something wrong cause I missed you
Yeah, I missed you
And you say I only hear what I want to
I don’t listen hard
I don’t pay attention to the distance that you’re running or to
Anyone, anywhere
I don’t understand if you really care
I’m only hearing negative, no no no - bad
So I turned the radio on I turned the radio up
And this woman was singing my song
The lover’s in love and the other’s run away
The lover is crying cause the other won’t stay
And some of us hover when we weep for the other who
was dying
Since the day they were born well
Well this is not that
I think that I’m throwing but I’m thrown
And I thought I’d live forever but now I’m not so sure
You try to tell me that I’m clever but that won’t take me anyhow
Or anywhere with you
And you said that I was naive
And I thought that I was strong
I thought “hey I can leave, I can leave”
But now I know that I was wrong cause I missed you
Yeah I missed you
You said “you caught me cause you want me
And one day I’ll let you go”
You try to give away a keeper or keep me cause you’re know
you’re
just too scared to lose
And you say, “stay”
You say I only hear what I want to.
And of course way back then, alternative music was just begining to be popular. Bands like Counting Crows, Nirvana, Beck, Offspring where relatively new back then. I think from all the Alternative songs, the one which I still love till this day is this one :-
Mr.Jones : Counting Crows
I was down at the New Amsterdam staring at this yellow-haired girl
Mr. Jones strikes up a conversation with this black-haired flamenco dancer
She dances while his father plays guitar
She’s suddenly beautiful
We all want something beautiful
I wish I was beautiful
So come dance this silence down through the morning
Cut Maria! Show me some of them Spanish dances
Pass me a bottle, Mr. Jones
Believe in me
Help me believe in anything
I want to be someone who believes
Mr. Jones and me tell each other fairy tales
Stare at the beautiful women
“She’s looking at you. Ah, no, no, she’s looking at me.”
Smiling in the bright lights
Coming through in stereo
When everybody loves you, you can never be lonely
I will paint my picture
Paint myself in blue and red and black and gray
All of the beautiful colors are very very meaningful
Grey is my favorite color
I felt so symbolic yesterday
If I knew Picasso
I would buy myself a gray guitar and play
Mr. Jones and me look into the future
Stare at the beautiful women
“She’s looking at you.
Uh, I don’t think so. She’s looking at me.”
Standing in the spotlight
I bought myself a gray guitar
When everybody loves me, I will never be lonely
I want to be a lion
Everybody wants to pass as cats
We all want to be big big stars,
but we got different reasons for thatBelieve in me
because I don’t believe in anything
and I want to be someone to believe
Mr. Jones and me stumbling through the barrio
Yeah we stare at the beautiful women
“She’s perfect for you, Man, there’s got to be somebody for me.”
I want to be Bob Dylan
Mr. Jones wishes he was someone just a little more funky
When everybody loves you, son, that’s just about as funky as you can be
Mr. Jones and me staring at the video
When I look at the television, I want to see me staring right back at me
We all want to be big stars, but we don’t know why and we don’t know how
But when everybody loves me, I’m going to be just about as happy as can be
Mr. Jones and me, we’re gonna be big stars..
5. Pass this tag onto 5 others
So much for a stroll down memory lane. Who shall I tag this time? Obviously people who didn’t turn 18 in the last few years, so I tag :- LaundryAmah, SimonTalks and my friend Christien New.

And its addictive too. The great thing about Facebook, for me at least, is that I have managed to get in touch with friends and old acquaintances from my travels to HK and my Acadia University days. Today I managed to find an close buddy of mine, Mike Schofield. We were tight back in uni. I have quite a few Canadian friends, but with most of them its hard to get past the surface, especially with the guys. Oddly enough my two close buddies where both named Mike. I met Mike Schofield while working at the Computer Lab, and then at the User Support Center. We had a few classes together, and I think we ate breakfast/Lunch every Tuesdays and Thursdays after Data Processing I believe. Those were good times man. The picture above was taken at my farewell party a few weeks before I left Canada. Man I was thin back then. hehe.
Sara called me not long ago, and told me our classmate Siew mei was coming up to KL with her boyfriend, and asked me if wanted to meet up for dinner. At first I was a little hesitant, as I didn’t really know her well back then, but I did want to catch up with old friends, so I said ok. And I am so glad I did, cos it was a stroll down memory lane and I loved it. I reminded her she was my class monitor in 4 anggrik, and she totally forgot. Haha. So did Sara actually, but its all good. 14 years have past since I last saw her man, 14 years. Good times. Sekolah Menegah Laksamana Kota Tinggi, Johor. 4-5 Anggrik, 1992-1993.

Yesterday, I saw a my little pony toy for the first time. Seriously. You might think thats a little funny, but you see my sister didn’t really have many girl toys. She didn’t even own a Barbie doll, and the first time I saw one of those was when visiting our family friends in Kluang, and they were not into ponies I guess. Anyhoo, yesterday was my churches AGM, and as I sat there with my friends Kenneth and Kim-ann, their 4 year old daughter had with her 2 My Little Ponies. What else would I do? Photograph them of course

Did you have a My Little Pony growing up? I really wanna know. I had 2 transformer toys, Rodimous Prime and Ultra Magnus, a Mask Toy :- Condor, and a Robotech Varitech fighter. No guns really, I did have a pair of handcuffs, but I accidentally handcuffed myself and lost the key, much to my fathers anger. Hehe. I also had a few stuff toys, mostly handmade by my mom. One was this dog that I took everywhere when I was much younger. I remember we also had a chicken which was hard like a cannon ball, infact I think that was his name. Haha.
