Federal Territory Flag

When our friends Tatiana and Diago where here in Malaysia, they saw this flag all over KL. It stuck with them and they were very curios to know what flag it was. This was because it looked allot like the flag of their homeland, Columbia, minis the Malaysian Seal in the middle and the length of the yellow stripe. I totally forgot about finding out what flag it was till Sara reminded me today. After a little googling, I discovered its the Federal Territory of Malaysia’s flag. I didn’t know the FT’s combined had its own flag. I knew KL has a flag, Putrajaya has a flag and Labuan has a flag, but I guess you learn something new each day. So Tatiana and Diago, this one is for you!

The state of our boys in blue

Friday, July 11th, 2008

I read and laughed at this mornings newspaper. Not about Pak Lahs succession plan with I think is garbage, but rather the story of our cops filing police reports for not receiving enough of the share of the monthly bribes. Now everybody in the world knows that at least 70% Malaysian cops are dirty. Almost half of Malaysia has personally witnessed a cop asking for bribes and the other half are kids and don’t know what was going on. Its an decease that has plagued our nation for years. I have never been stopped by a cop while driving in Malaysia, but as a passenger in a car, I have witnessed policemen ask for bribes at least 5 times! I have a expat friend who learned about bribery from a cop! He made a honest mistake, and when stopped by the police, he was more than willing to pay the fine. The Cops insisted that because he was not Malaysian, it was very difficult, and that he should just pay the cops about RM100 each time he got stopped to avoid the hassle. Such is the image of our cops today, and nothing has been done to change it. When Pak Lah came to power be promised reform and a cleaner Malaysia, he has failed miserably. What has he done in the years he came into power? Gotten married and increased petrol prices, TWICE. Sigh. How la.

Cop vs cops in Gemas station

GEMAS: A policeman has lodged a report against all his colleagues including his superiors allegedly over dissatisfaction on how the monthly bribes from those operating illegal activities was being distributed.

In retaliation, one of his superiors, a sergeant, lodged another police report against the policeman, a lance corporal, for allegedly selling station property to scrap dealers.

A source said the lance corporal, in his 40s, was dissatisfied with his superiors for allegedly taking the lion’s share of the bribes while the rank and file received very little.

“In fact, the complainant claimed that he did not get a sen,” the source said.

The report was lodged earlier this week.

The sergeant, in an apparent tit-for-tat, lodged another report against the lance corporal alleging that he had sold some old wooden and iron furniture from the police station to a dealer.

“His colleagues even know where the dealer is operating from,” the source said.

State police chief Datuk Osman Salleh confirmed that a report has been lodged.

“We are investigating the claims made by the lance corporal. We do not want to make conclusions straightaway as the allegations are serious,” he said.

He said all the policemen were still on duty and have not been asked to go on leave.

He said action would be taken against his men if the claims were true.

It is understood that the Anti-Corruption Agency has also started a probe.

I saw Dr.M today!

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

The boys and I went to lunch today at Sooka Sentral near my office and we heard drums and saw all kinds of cops around. Then as we walked past a Kelantan Restaurant called kelantan Delight, i saw him! It was Dr.M. I was quite excited actually. I wanted to walk into the place and shake his hand, alas it was a private function and I though that was stupid and rude. I just glanced from a far. Later on I found out its his birthday today. Happy Birthday Dr.M! According to Wikipedia, its not his birthday after all.

The Intelligence of DBKL

Driving to Lunch at Megamall yesterday, and it took us almost 30 minutes to get out of Brickfields. Want to guess why? The DBKL were installing new decorative lights in the middle of the day, closing half the road, causing a massive Jam. Tell me why this has to be done on a Monday afternoon? What can’t it be done after peak hours, in the wea hours of the morning, or over the weekend? Sigh.

Abdullah denies getting report on Altantuya case
[Source]

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi has refuted an allegation that he had received a written report from military intelligence over the murder of Mongolian Altantuya Shaariibuu.

“Of course I am concerned (over the allegation by Malaysia Today blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin). What Raja Petra did is unacceptable … because what he stated is incorrect.

“It is stated (in Raja Petra’s statutory declaration) that I received a report from the military intelligence. That is not correct,” he said yesterday.

Abdullah said this when asked to comment on the statutory declaration made by Raja Petra on June 18 in which he stated, among others, that Abdullah had received a written report from military intelligence on Altantuya’s murder. – Bernama

Surprise, surprise. Did anybody actually think he would admit to reading such a document if it did exist? He would even deny the very existence of the Military Intelligence Unit if he could. How could he explain why the military was even looking into the matter if he did not have any concern with somebody in Parliament? In all likelihood, as it is always in Malaysia, some poor sap will get blamed for the murder, and the masterminds and the people in power will go free. And people wonder why nobody has any trust in the legal system of Malaysia?
