It was the Carling Cup, and our co-worker Mira managed to get us cheap tickets and we were very excited. It was my first ever live football game! It was at the Emirates Stadium, a very huge and beautiful place! We got our seats, ate some grub inside the stadium and then got to our seat. The place was huge and people started pouring in. Before long the game started and people were singing all the Arsenal songs and shouting “Who are we?”. There was a grand total of 6 goals! And as we left, there they were shouting “Red Army”, all the way to the tube stations. Wow. You gotta see one game when you are here!

London Calling :- Watching a Football Match

Aresenal VS Sheffield United

One of the things you always hear about when people talk about England is definitely the football clubs. All around the world people are fans of clubs like Manchester United or Liverpool, even though they never ever been to England. When I was a wea lad, Dad and we would watch games on Sunday on the Telly. Don’t think he was a Fan, rather the fact that there was noting else on the Telly on Sunday afternoons worth watching. I used to support Manchester United way back when Eric Cantona used to play. I saw his famous flying kick to a photographer, live! Then I lost interest on clubs and only really supported nations. If you follow my blog you know I love the Oranje! And my back up team is Germany. Anyways, my co-workers here have gotten tickets for the game on September 23 at Emirates Stadium! Woohoo. All for the sum of £20 per person. Thats cheap man. I googled the price of Man-U vs Chelsea and they were £350 for nosebleeds behind the goal post seats. Crazy! Will update with pictures when I come back from the match :)

EURO2008 :- Victorious Spain

Monday, June 30th, 2008

Much to the surprise of most people, Spain defeated favorites Germany by the one single goal early this morning. In all honesty nobody expected them to loose and I am sure there are many fans that are in mourning (Sorry Gallivanter). Not having won a major title in many a year, the spanyards looked promising early in the competition but nobody really expected the mighty Germans to loose to them. Alas, we have a winner.

EURO2008 : End of Turkish Delight

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

It actually saddens me that Germany defeated Turkey early this morning. I have been known at times to be a German fan, especially when the Oranje are defeated, but this EURO something inside me wanted to support the Underdogs, and the Turks were underdogs in every definition I could think off. It was trilling that they scored the first goal at the 22nd minute via U?ur Boral, and then Germany scored two goals, the first by Schweinsteiger in the 26th and then Klose at 79. It looked like a German victory, but in true style, Turkey managed to equalize via Semih ?entürk on the 86th. If they could only hold out longer the game would have gone into extra time, but alas, the Germans scored the winning goal via Lahm. Its interesting to note that Ballack has been under performing lately. Anyways, it was a good run Turkey, I am proud of you!

EURO2008 : Goodbye Italy, Hello SemiFinals

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

And then there were 4. As I predicted, Spain defeat Italy in penalty shoot-outs. Its not the best way to advance, but advance the Russians have, leaving the Italians where they belong, out of the SemiFinals, hehe. I do think though besides the German fans in Malaysia, most Malaysians are out of teams to support, as I don’t have any friends who support Turkey or Russian. I do have the odd one or two friends who are Spanish fans, but they are few. I am now at 20-10 prediction wise. It gets harder now, only 3 games left to predict. The Germans have always been my second team, only when the Dutch are not playing, but I don’t really want to support them this EURO. I am for the underdogs this year, and so I am saying it will be a Turkey Vs Russia Finals. Lets just wait and see.
