Spanish Voyage :- Barcelona, Traditional Spanish Salami
November 28th, 2008 by Nick Tay

Fuet is a Catalan thin, cured, dry sausage of pork meat in a pork gut. The most famous is made in the comarca (county) of Osona and is also known as Vic fuet (fuet de Vic, after the city of Vic, capital of Osona).
And there we were exploring Barcelona, specifically parts of Barri Gòtic, and Sara wanted to try something she read somewhere about Goose meat and jam. I didn’t read about this yet, and everybody we asked thus far didn’t know about it either. Not wanting to be un-adventurous, we walked into this traditional spanish place and asked about goose meat. The guy who spoke no english, looked confused. The guidebook I bought had a section on Spanish foods to try and didn’t mention anything about Goose at all. Unable to make any form of a conversation, we left the shop defeated. We took 4 steps out of the shop and I looked into Sara’s eyes and it was filled with such dissapointment.
We agreed to try anything authentic, and I looked into my book and it mentioned Fuet. We walked back into the place and I ordered ,”Uno Cerveza Y Fuet”. Ordering beer is one thig you learn after spending your college days with spanish friends
We sat down and were very excited to see what we had to eat.
And then disaster stuck. The sausage didn’t taste nice at all. I mean, I could eat it, but Sara took one bite and asked me if we could bring it back and ask the hotel to fry some rice with it. It was clearly an aquired taste. In total it cost us 7 Euro and it took 2 days before the taste left Sara’s mouth. Hehe.
