Early in the morning, Sara and I got out of the house and drove about 1 1/2 hours to the middle of nowhere to reach Avalon Airport, Melbourne. All Jetstar domestic flights leave from there and I must say it was really in the middle of nowhere!! If you are going to fly domestic, take Virgin Blue! It cost al ittle more, but you will save on fuel.

The flight was short and sweet and before we even knew it, we had arrived at Sydney airport. It was nice and warm there, and that was a break from the cold weather we had been getting in Melbourne. We took a shuttle bus to our hotel, costing us AUD12 a person. We stayed at the Y at Hyde Park, very central in Sydney and I must say one of the cheapest you can get in the city. We rested for a bit, and then proceeded to explore the city a wea bit.

A good mix of old and new, we found the city much more hectic than Melbourne, though that excited me. I like the city, the rush, the pulse. We explored Darling Harbour, but was a little disappointed that the famed Opera House was no where to be seen. We later learned that it could be seen from a place called the Rocks, not to far away. Hehe.

At first glance, Sydney was not as tourist friendly as Melbourne, as they expected you know know your way around. The free maps given were less than adequate, signs not as good as they could be. We went back to our hotel, where Klo soon picked us up and brought us for an excellent dinner and to enjoy the view from North Sydney. End day 1.
