The Journey Down Under

April 20th, 2008 by Nick Tay

I left home at 4pm, on the 18th of April, 2008 and headed to LCCT on a taxi, which cost me RM 51.30. I got to the Air Asia counter where I had to check in my bags to Singapore, and I was 5kgs overweight. They only allowed 15kg and I had 20. I had to pay RM75 extra, sigh. Anyhoos, the plane took off on time and I reached Changi Airport with loads of time to spare. I then boarded my Singapore Airlines flight to Melbourne and was excited as excited could be. The journey was quite a long one, and I didn’t really enjoy the movies being showed. I was seated in between an American Lady and and Indian man, both who fell sound asleep, and I didn’t really fit in the economy chair all that comfortably. I tried to sleep, and managed to get about 2 hours tops. Then at around 6am Melbourne time they served breakfast, and I was all excited as I knew I was going to reach in but a few hours.

The plane landed, and immigration was a breeze, but customs. Man, that was another story. I stood in line for almost 1 hour and 30 minutes till it was finally my turn and they opened almost every piece of baggage on me. I had brought some 3-in-1 instant coffee which I had declared, and they took it away as it contained traces of milk, and that was not allowed. Thank God I declared it, else I could have been finned 200 AUD! I got out of the airport and there was Sara waiting for me! Woohoo!

Sara waited an hour for me, and parking cost her 18 AUD. Sigh! Tips for those of you, don’t park at the airport. I brought my GPS which had some free Melbourne maps loaded, and I turned it on the GPS, but alas it could not route me to any locations though it could show me exactly where i was in detail. I drove back from the airport to Sara’s Uncle and Aunts place in the suburbs, and it was one beautiful trip.

I rested for a while, then Sara and I went out to see a few malls and collected a cake to celebrate her aunts birthday. We then went to cell group where we celebrated yet another birthday, this time a cell member of Sara’s.

After a long days journey, we got home and I slept like a baby. First day in Melbourne and I spent only AUD18 on parking at the airport :)

On this day in History..
