The dilemma of temptation
February 16th, 2008 by Nick Tay
Not having a set of wheels, I am limited when it comes to the things I can do on a Saturday. In the morning, I had breakfast with my sister and bro-in-law, collecting my laundry at the same time, and then I was stranded at home. Wanting to check out the Suzuki cars at the showroom at Section 14, PJ, I took a cab there and looked around. The Suzuki Vitara Grand actually looks like a CRV, costing a little above 100k, and I was quite tempted. I then walked to the nearby IT mall where I grabbed a brochure on PDA phones and then onwards to the Toyota showroom to see the Rush. The Rush, about the same size at the Suzuki, but only a 1.5cc car, selling at 90k seemed too pricey and not worth it. I sat down and had a drink, and then I saw something on the PDA phone via the printed material I had taken earlier. Stated at the back in bold witting was the fact that I could buy the phones via Interest Free Credit Card Installment schemes, and I really wanted to buy one phone in particular. I walked back to the Digital Mall, sat there at the counter, asked some questions, almost reaching for my wallet and then a lion dance troupe appeared , beating their drums, creating a very noisy atmosphere. I retreated to McDonalds, and then I was not tempted anymore, and quickly headed home via taxi.
I got home, started watching a DVD and then I pulled out the brochure. I kept reading it over and over again, and I was soo tempted to buy it. Thoughts of what I could do with it kept flooding my mind, and I had this loud nagging feeling telling me not to spend money on something I didn’t really need. Finally, I smsed Sara, asking her to talk some sense into me.
Sara reminded me on the financial goals we had set for ourselves to archive by year end. She reminded me on being a good steward to the money God has blesses us with, as well as spoke volumes about Credit Card debt, something that took me ages to get out off, and I finally realized that she was right. I took the brochure and ripped it up into pieces and decided that I should not dwell on things that I do not need. That’s the thing about temptation isn’t it, if you let it, it creeps into your system.
Thanks baby, you are my voice of Reason. Hehe

honey, i m proud of u. all of us are expose to temptations. the devil has no authority against God’s children but he can deceive. If we allow that to happen, he doesnot have to do anything anymore, course it will lead us to self destruction. Pastor Julie once said, if we face temptations, don’t try to fight face to face but RUN AWAY. Run for your life !
