Carless during Chinese New Year

February 8th, 2008 by Nick Tay

Unlike cities like Singapore and Bangkok, being Carless in Kuala Lumpur is not a breeze. I am amazed how many of our locals depend on it and do not get upset at its lousy state. Perhaps its just me, having a car for so long, I have gotten too comfortable, or perhaps its the locals who have never been to cities where the trains are on time and the different lines actually connect well!! I went to megamall yesterday, taking the LRT from Kelana Jaya to Abdullah Hukum. I mean, one can see Megamall from Abdullah Hukum, there should be a way to walk there easily right? WRONG! I got down and tried to find it, almost wanting to give up till a nice Indian guy saw me walking dazed and asked me if I was headed towards Megamall. I said yes, and he told me to walk down along the storm drain and I would eventually see a bridge. The walk took me about 30 minutes but eventually I arrived at Mega mall. After going to the Gym and buying 2 nice working pants for RM29 each on sale, I had enough of the mall and wanted to heads towards KLCC. My original idea was to take the KTM Komuter towards KL Sentral and then change to the putra line. I entered the station using my Touch n Go card, and waited for the Sentul bound train. The sign on the digital board said the train would arrive in 20 minutes!! I though, ok, perhaps its a long train. There were less than 400 people waiting, so I thought it would be ok. After 2 announcements of the train delays, after 1 hour of waiting, the crowd waiting to board the train had increased to almost 3000 people!! And when the train finally arrived it was packed full!! I told myself there is no way I can get into this train and unwilling to wait another hour for the next train, I exited the station, only to realize they took off RM10.00 from my Touch n Go card!! The cost of a round trip to Seremban! Crap! I finally walked 30 minutes back to Abdulah Hukum, and headed to AmCorp mall instead. I knew the mall would be deserted but at least the CyberCafe would be open and I could play a few games. Sigh…Our public transport system sucks!

On this day in History..

so it was 400 balloning to 3000 issit?
or was it 40 to 300?

If it is indeed the former then it’s crazy!!!

And I don’t think ppl necessarily have a choice into whether to take the public transport or not sometimes…

    God bless!
