Vung Tau :- The Journey There

I woke up on that Saturday morning, excited and a little nervous. We were about to take a 3 hour motorbike ride to Vung Tau, a tourist city  about 125km from Saigon. I have been on a motorbike in Vietnam before, that was not the issue. This was different! This was on the highway, and was 3 hours away! We reached the clients office, wearing t-shirt and jeans, with our clothes in backpacks, and the IT boss was there. He too was nervous about the trip and asked if we wanted to go by Boat or Bus instead, but we declined. Wanting to experience the way the Vietnamese travel around, not wanting to spoil the fun of traveling together with our clients, we stuck to motorbikes. Helmets and Masks were the order of the day, and we had bought a mask for about 3000 VND, less than RM1! Helmets, the bank staff managed to rent for us, and by 1pm, we were off on our journey.

They were 12 people, 6 motorbikes. I rode with Phuong, Sara with Thao, Fang with Khoa, SeeYau with Jenne,  and 4 other Bank staff joined us. It wasn’t long before my butt was already sore, and we had not even left the outskirts of Saigon City. Traffic was heavy! Lorries everywhere, but the road conditions were very good. I was actually very impressed with the Highways that the Vietnamese people have! The roads were very wide, and in some portions of the journey, the traffic one direction was separated by  a whole park with the opposite one, making the flow of traffic much smother!

About 1 hour into the journey, we stopped at Long Thanh where we had Fresh Milk. This was a welcomed break, giving us a chance to rest our legs and butt, plus wetting our lips. It was then another hour before we reached Phuong’s house, where to took yet another break, this time 30 minutes to freshen up, and eat some fruits, before going the final hour to the Vung Tau.

On our way there, the sun began to set along the Padi fields, and it was so beautiful. Didn’t really manage to grab my camera to capture it, but the view is one that will stay in memory for a lifetime. We got to the hotel, showered, and then we explored the city. This time I rode the streets of Vung Tau with Sara as my passenger. It was fun zooming around and catching the sites, more in the next post.

On this day in History..
