Sydney travels with me to Mongolia

July 1st, 2007 by Nick Tay

Firstly, I hate flying Air China and going through Beijing. Both experiences have never been good and this flight just adds to the list of negative inexperiences. Anyhoo, after a great YA service yesterday and a greater dinner with a few church friends, I was dropped at KL Sentral where I took the KLIA Express to the airport. Well, I paid for the KLIA Express, somehow the train stopped on all the KLIA Transit routes. Sneaky. I reached the airport, checked in, and as I was clearing airport security, I saw an ex-colleague. He was flying off to London, and so we sat at Starbucks for a drink.

We chatted about the good old days, and then parted ways as his flight was at 11pm, while mine was at 12:40am. I stuck around starbucks, blogging a bit, and then decided I could not trust Air China for my meal and ate something at burger king. Wise choice.

Boarded the plane and to my horror it was a tiny-tiny plane. Only 3 by 3 seats and hardly any legroom at all. I seriously could not sit, but was blessed to have and empty seat next to me, else I would have died. The whole plane had a mildew smell, like really old carpet kinda thing. I sat there and tried to get some rest. The meal came along and it was not tasty at all, so I gave it a pass and tried to sleep, but I missed my girlfriend too much.

Before I knew it, we arrived in Beijing, no inflight entertainment to speak of at all. A 6 hour flight and no radio or TV shows at all. Wow. The plane was so old, it didn’t have any entertainment system, thats why. Anyhoo got off the plane, and to my pleasure, the Airport was ok this time except the only thing I like about it was no more there. The Dinners club lounge had closed down!! Argh!! I loved that place. Sadly, I went to Starbucks again, and had breakfast.

Thank God the second leg of my journey was MUCH better. The 2 hour flight to Ulaanbator had a bigger plane, and inflight TV shows for us to watch. The sandwiches were not bad also, and before I knew it I was here.

Staying in a small hotel not far from the Bank, and I walked to my fave cafe Nanya where they have free wifi. Will be staying here toll dinner time where I am meeting my Malaysian auditor friends here.

On this day in History..
