You know you won’t win most popular staff of the year when….(Part2)
June 16th, 2007 by Nick Tay
If you think Part 1 was bad. On Friday, there was a farewell for one of the co-workers in the office. She sits like 6 meters away from me, but we have like a huge tall cubicle wall between us. I have never talked to her before. I don’t even think I said good morning to her, or she too me. She was hired while I was away, and nobody introduced her to me. I don’t really have the habbit of introducing myself to new co-workers, perhaps cos I think they should come and introduce themselves to me, being more senior. Perhaps I am just anti-social that way. Whatever the reason she left on friday. And I don’t even know her name. Don’t think I ever knew her name. So, you think I will win?
Oh update. One of my staff members left last week. And I didn’t realize till today. Muahahahaha

That reminded me of my days in college, where there was this bunch of people had their eyes grown on the head. I always said hi to them but they always pretended not to see me even if it was only shoulder distance. After a few failed attempts, I just **** it. Who cares anyway. But, now, every morning I greet my colleagues. It’s a basic courtesy I guess. The thing I hate the most is, greeting but without getting a response.

This sort of situation is so hard to imagine for me. I work for a company with a little less than 30 employees, so everybody knows everybody. Also there are staff meetings where [among other things] new people are introduced even after they’ve been introduced to each person in particular the first day they arrived; they still do the introduction during the meeting again just in case someone was absent the day the new employee came.
