I rather be wanted by One person, than needed by a thousand….

June 14th, 2007 by Nick Tay

I was chatting with my friend who is in UK yesterday, and she admitted she misses me, especially when her laptop wasn’t working. I know her well enough to know she does miss me, even when I am of no need to her, but it brought up an interesting point. It seems these days, that you only really think of your friends and family even, when you need them. Either to do some trivial task such as get your registered mail, or pay your bills when your away, or something much less lilliputian, like to pay your huge bills or take care of your children. There is nothing wrong with needed people, if we were meant to do everything by our own, we would probably be created without the need for sleep or rest. We need other people, weather we like to admit it or not. The problem then lies with the fact we tend to take the ones we care about for granted, and after a while, we want them around because we need them, not because we want them around. Whats the diff? Well, being wanted is about you, not about what you can offer, either physically or emotionally. The feeling of being wanted, is priceless. You can own all the things money can buy, all the finer things in life, and find that the people around you need the things you have and the money you own, not you. Being wanted is knowing that even when all the money is gone, all the material things you own are rusted and gone, when all you have is the shirt on your back, and the flawed personality with all the eccentrics that come along with it, they still want you. Because you are still you. Thats being wanted.

On this day in History..
