JJCM :- Big Apple Doughnuts , The Curve

Just like Kimberlycun, I love them. I first heard about this place through a friend who suggested we meet there today, and when I saw kim’s post, I decided, I MUST go there. We arrived there about 8:30, my friends had already eaten some doughnuts, and so I decided to buy more. Just then, one of my friends playfully suggested to one of the staff there, if she reused the box, would she get a discount. Not knowing it was the owner, who gave us 4 free doughnuts straight away. He was too shy to appear on Camera, but told us that he had gone to the USA to learn how to make them, and did allot of market strategy on the best way to start a shop back here.

The doughnuts are definately the best ones I have tasted in Malaysia. Soft, full flavoured, very good variety, taste very fresh. YUM. You gotta try them. 1 is RM2, 6 is RM 9.50.

I recommend the Bananarama! “Only you can set me free, cos I am Guilty, Guilty as a girl can be”…or are you too young to understand that?

On this day in History..

iT is a plagiarized….see J.Co from Indonesia at http://www.jcodonuts.com. it has been started for some years in Jakarta and the owner of big Apple claims that it is “his” innovation??? anyway J.Co opening soon at Sunway Pyramid and Pavilion

admin : i saw the pavillion one. looks exactly the same as big apple donuts

  6. [...] Ever since I did the Big Apple Donut entry, I got some comments about how it actually ripped off JCO Donuts. Always wanting to explore [...]

  7. Honey Pot says:

Big Apple Donuts : I personally think that BIG APPLE DONUTS & COFFEE is better than J CO Donuts. The donuts are softer. The service is better.

J CO Donuts : J Co Donuts Service crew will just stuck any of the donuts to your box which you didn’t order the choice of donuts. Just because the long “Q” the quality was not good, the donuts will stick onto the box, the topping will stick to the box makes the box looks so messy, poor service, the speed of serving the donuts is also not fast enough.

  8. Al says:

Big Apple Donuts is a rip off copycat. Tried them and didn’t like it. JCO is still the best judging from the long lines all day everyday. Big apple just opened at pavilion and there are no lines.

  9. chan says:

may i know have any vacancy available for baker????

  10. dokter says:

ey poor consumer like u guys become the victim of company like this. Please la. i’m not a fan of donuts, but i do come from thee industry. Like what “al” post up earlier saying about plagiarizing, well its true. Donuts are softer? come one, its the same donuts. well apparently if u steal the formula u’ll and up with two same donut rights? well if u feel 1 is better than the other think twice or is it just in ur head? :P and since theres many people are aware about originality, that explains the cue..

Its like buying a pirate DVD. But those pirate dvd dudes are even more generous to sell u 10-15RM each. But This big apple donuts are selling at a same price of pirate material? hehe dont u think its cut throat?
they should sell 20 cents for each donut la at least.
pirated donuts wat? would u pay RM80 for a pirated movie? quality same but copied? i dun think so..

and for the skeptics, how long have big apple been in the market? compared the the other jco? they dun even have a site? alamak so yesterday la this apple

  11. THE DONUT LOVER says:

WELL, FROM THE LOOKING, J.CO DONUTS LOOKS MUCH DELICIOUS, IT HAS A VERY SHINNY COLOUR.
I HAVEN’T TASTE YET BOTH OF IT, BUT I AM SO GLADE BECAUSE I WILL BE IN KL THIS 30TH NOV, AND I TOLD MY WIFE, THE 1ST PLACE I WILL GO IS PAVILLION, NOTHING ELSE, JUST SO SO SO INTERESTED TO TASTE HOW NICE ARE THOSE DONUTS.
HOW MANY DONUTS ARE SOLD BY BIG APPLE IN 2 YEARS?
    ALSO SAME AS J.CO ? 50 MILLION DONUTS ?
IF YOU ASK ME TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE OF THEM TO TRY, I WILL TRY J.CO 1ST INSTEED.

  12. People, they are just doughnuts la :)

  13. Khiko Rayesmara says:

    Copy Cat!!

  14. Khiko Rayesmara says:

    copy cat,,,pencuri ide orang lain…

  15. Actually I doubt you can call them “pencuri”. If you do then even JCO Doughnuts stole the idea from Dunkin Doughnuts right? I mean, unless you invented the Doughnut?

  16. Gilang says:

Gesh… Big Apple?? What a “Me Too” Strategy of J.Co Donuts & Coffee, The Logo of the brand is a combination of J.Co and I-Crave, Using the same open kitchen outlet, even the donuts its exactly like J.Co.

    @Reflector,
J.Co is totally different with Dunkin Donuts, come on… its different kind of innovation both from the product and marketing strategy. But one and the only Big Apple invention is on their brand… everything else is copy cat.

Well, even though I haven’t try any big apple donuts. Sorry for make me to judge them at the first time. But I’m pretty sure it quite much the same with J.Co, Isn’t it? Even its different, they just change the compositions of the donut ingredients.

    See my review about J.Co : http://andrigilang.wordpress.com/2007/11/30/the-story-behind-the-hole

  17. Hello people! Its just a doughnut! No need to get so emotional!!

  18. Sugarhigh says:

Be it J CO or Big Apple, both are copycats of Krispy Kreme. To me as long as it goes well in my mouth, I’m a happy kitty.

However, I find that Big Apple donuts are crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I likeeee….

  19. ad says:

Jco donuts are so much better than big apple. No offense but seriously, Jco is fresher and softer. However, I think both copied the original Krispy Kreme donuts. That’s the god of donuts. Anyway, as far as Malaysia is concern, Jco is still the best. Who cares, if they’re copycats or not.

  20. -MB- says:

The first Big Apple outlet (make that 1st donuts outlet ever!) just opened here in KK.. I have to go and try now that I’ve found this entry.. my cousins said JCO is better .. have to try them both and decide for myself! :) With Big Apple here, I don’t have to go to KL for my donuts cravings! hehe …

  21. Kit says:

Please don’t penalize whether J Co, Big Apple …are copy cat or not. if you can copy exactly the same, I’ll salute you. As long as the food is yummy, and they are well done, that’s their success.
We can enjoy the more variaty donuts and coffee now…

  22. manxzeus says:

After read through what everyone discussing here, I only able to say, everyone have own perception. Who is bias? Who cares?
This world full of copycats, even we have copycat marketing strategies.
As long as they’re genuine to provide good products to consumer, why sould we tracing so badly, who copy who?

If we really want to say it that way, then I can say, BreadStory copy BreadTalk, even a lot what what “bread’s issue” nowadays, everyone try to follow the bakery boutique concept, its a trend, no doubt.

After all, we just try to share something here. If u found “K.Co” is sth delicious too, why not we try it? If its not nice, then its not nice, if its nice, then its nice… its personal…

The story is, no doubt Jco was already in the market start up in Indonesia since sometimes ago. Then, Big Apple see the market, but they decide to start it in Malaysia before JCo come in here.
From the concept, strategies and products, we will definately say that Big Apple is copying JCo, if we know the history behind.
But, is it also means that Big Apple using low quality ingredients for their doughnuts? I wont comment on this unless you go into their kitchen and find out what ingredients they are using. Come on, if its low cost and low quality ingredients, we all as consumer wont be so stupid like hell, never realise but keep on believing its good. Unless, your tongue no more able to taste anything.

It might be just bullshit with my craps up there… dont take it serious. After all, its still a personal opinion. I just share what I know.

Anyway, I would like to let you all know something I really think is good too.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, as what few people said here, its really excellent products. Of course its not here in Malaysia. It has huge chain in US and Canada.

Mister Donut is another superb brand. Origin from US. But Japanese took its franchise for whole Asia. I found it in Taiwan. One word, GREAT!!!

If you found what people try to recommend is not as good as you think, then that’s it. Nobody will force you to suffer yourself to keep on trying it.
Whereas, if its good, then try as much as u wish, and recommend to others.
Like what reflector said, its just a doughnut!
Dont make it so political, but always share what you think.

    Cheers
