Maybe I shouldn’t have dyed my hair….
June 1st, 2007 by Nick Tay
Laster I cannot leave the country how? I think its actually quite a silly statement to be made. In this morden day and age where people dye thier hair oh so often your telling me that if I dye my hair, I may not be able to leave the country? What happen to all those bio-metrix securities the governments are always bragging about. I am pretty sure the ammonia in the dye doesn’t change my fingerprints right?
And another thing about photographs needed to make passports. I went to a photo studio and ask the guy for 4 passport photographs, he took the photo’s with the required blue background, and I went to Immigration to line up with all the required documents. I got there the lady said it cannot be used, and when I asked why, she scolded me. “I say cannot, means cannot. Go take new ones then come back”. Wah! How modern and friendly. I took the instant ones, and relined up. Then I cheated and used the ones I bought at the store, nobody complained. My theory, they get a cut from the instant photo guy….but thats just a theory.
What are the guidelines besides having a Blue Background? Somebody tell me please.

Hair’s the deal in passport photographsPENANG: Make sure your hair colour matches that in your photograph if you are planning to renew your passport or travelling overseas.
State Immigration Department director Mohamed Nasir Osman said his officers had the right to reject an applicant’s photograph if they felt that the image was different from the actual person.
“A person might have black hair when he had his photograph taken but his hair could have since turned white,†he said.
Mohamed Nasir said if a woman had dyed her hair blonde and her photograph was up to date, the department would accept it.
However, he cautioned that she could face problems with foreign immigration authorities if her hair returned to its original colour.
“It is our procedure to ensure that the passport photographs are the latest. The background of the photographs must be blue. We have rejected photographs with red and yellow backgrounds.â€
He was responding to a complaint by retiree Mohd Said Mohd Nagoor, 58, that the department rejected his photograph, taken last month, when he went to the Beach Street office to renew his passport.
“No explanation was given. The officer at the counter just told me to go to the back of the building, where there was a studio, to have my photograph taken again.
“I had to pay an extra RM9 for it,†he said.
Mohd Said was dark-haired in his studio photograph taken earlier but his present hair colour is grey.
Mohamed Nasir said the department received an average 500 passport applications a day and this was the first time an applicant had complained about the rejection of his passport photograph.
