The third one is always for love…
December 10th, 2006 by Nick Tay
I was invited to a Ukrainian Dinner Party last night. Kate, my Ukrainian friend had just moved apartments and it was her house warming party. I was really excited, as I wanted a chance to state home cooked Ukrainian/Russian meals. I was not disappointed.
This reciepy is from Kate’s hometown. Its Eggs, Long Beans and Deep Fried Onions. It tastes amazing! Gonna try and make it when I get home, when I have the time.
Another Russian dish. Its Salmon marinated with olive oil, a little vinegar and salt.
Stuffed Bell Peppers. Inside it it has meat, rice , onions and carrots. This one is boiled, but you can also steam or bake it. Tastes great.
Russians/Ukrainians drink allot when they eat, and there are many customs that I learned by just joining them in one simple meal. Firstly, the first 2 drinks are toasted to the host for whatever occasion the dinner is being held for, in this case, it was for Kate’s new apartment.
The third toast I am told, is always for Love. The forth is always for Luck, and since 4 is a even number, you can’t stop there. The 5th is for something else, I don’t quite remember, but it goes all the way to 15.
I was just sipping some amazing red wine, but my friend Zalim (A russian as well), was taking shot after shot of Vodka. He told me there is only 15, as after 15 shots of Russian Vodka, usually nobody is sober enough to continue counting. Haha. We stopped at 8, as we still had a birthday party to attend to at Strings.
