Slain Woman’s Father Unhappy
Thursday, 30 November 2006
By Ch.SumiyabazarS.SHAARIBUU, whose 28-year-old daughter, Sh.Altantuya, a mother of two children, was killed in Malaysia in October, has expressed his disappointment with how the two hearings of the case in Kuala Lumpur had gone since the arrest of Abdul Razak Baginda. He was addressing a press conference on November 28 at the Mongol News Press and Information Center.
He said, “Those two were just ‘facades’ to show how Baginda was a high reputable person, where he was educated, and all that. The Malaysian media widely reported these facts. Baginda pleaded to be released on bail. He offered to pay even US$1 million to the court. So one can see he has a strong backing, and can buy whoever he wanted,†Shaariibuu said. Abdul Razak Baginda was released on RM1 million court bond last week. If the court finds him guilty, he faces the death penalty.
(Malaysia follows the British system of jurisprudence which is very different from the practice followed in many other nations, including Mongolia. In this, being on trial is no evidence of anyone’s guilt, and the court sets the bail amount on its own, with the accused having no say in the matter.)
