Compiled by NG CHENG YEE, PAUL CHOO AND A. RAMANMALAYSIAN authorities have denied the request of Altantuya Shaariibuu’s family to take her bone fragments back to Mongolia, Berita Harian reported.
Mongolian honorary consul-general Datuk Syed Abdul Rahman Alhabshi said the authorities had rejected their request because her remains were still needed as evidence in her murder trial.
“Altantuya’s father, Dr Shaariibuu Setev, recently asked for my help to request for her daughter’s bone fragments to be brought back to their hometown, Sukhbataar, in Mongolia.
“The family was a little disappointed when informed that their request had been denied,†he said.
The Chemistry Department had confirmed on Nov 14 through DNA tests that the bone fragments found in Puncak Alam, Shah Alam, were that of 28-year-old Altantuya, who was brutally murdered last month.
On Friday, Dr Shaariibuu, Altantuya’s cousin Amy and another female relative, Galochir Uuriintuya, had gone to hold prayers at the site where her body was disposed of to appease her soul.
They were accompanied by three Buddhist monks from the Maha Vihara Temple in Brickfields, including the temple’s chief monk Ven K. Dhammaratana and two plainclothes policemen from the Kuala Lumpur contingent headquarters.
Abdul Rahman said Dr Shaariibuu and Galochir had returned to Mongolia yesterday, while another relative, Namiraa Gerelmaa, would be heading to Hong Kong.
