Malaysians and thier obsession with race, skin colour and other external things…

October 9th, 2006 by Nick Tay

Why issit that only in Malaysia we are so obsessed with the race and the colour of our skin? Seriously, each time I tell somebody about something that happen, the first question is always , “What race was he ah? Malay ah? Indian Ah?” And then when they see my name card, and see my face, they go on and on about my race. Is it that important? The one thing I do like about China is that there are so many types of chinese people here. Shanghai is fillled with many different types of Chinese people and they don’t all look like what Malaysian chinese people think they should look like. I have seen MANY MANY darked skined chinese.

And then we have people who relate personal hygine with race. I meet a girl who once told me that Bangladeshies would win the worse body odour award, claming that Dark Skin causes body odour. Again, that’s just sign of how un-educated we are. I tried to tell her that Personal Hygine has nothing to do with race, and that when people live hard financial lives, almost every penny they earn goes into food and nessesities that deoderant isn’t high on the list of things to buy. It happens in every country with every people group, but that girl refused to be educated.

I think it boilds down to what we teach our children. I have personally heard parents tell thier very young kids about how bad other races are, insisting that only thier race is the best. Then again, I grew up in an enviroment where my own family told me how bad and useless Indians are, forgetting (or Ingnoring) that my Mother was Indian.

There must be a way to educate our nation, do like a Worlds Apart TV Show, where you take 2 City Chinese Kid with almost no Malay friends and dump him in a Malay Kampung and in a with an Indian Family. Do the same with an Indian and Malay kid, and show that on TV3 / NTV7.

I think people who Judge others for the colour of thier Skin are Idiots. Get to know them allite more and I am sure you can think of other reasons to Judge them.

Skin colour is just melanin baby.

On this day in History..

i so agree with u my friend…there should only be one race…the human race. to judge and even discriminate another human being based on their skin colour, ethnicity, status in society, looks, gender, etc, is like telling God He made a mistake. I guess to some degree we are all perpetrators of this mindset that had been around thousands of years, therefore we gotta stop this mindset ourselves and forgive even those that had judged us likewise.

    admin : amen!
