The Reunion before the wedding…

October 6th, 2006 by Nick Tay

And the day had arrive, an Important day in the Tay-Machado family, for there would be 2 aunts from my fathers side, 5 aunts from my aunts side and my brother who most have not seen in more than 12 years all under one roof at a Chinese restaurant. I was alittle nervous actually. I got up early in the morning, had breakfast, did a few things and then went to visit Bounce playhouse for probably the last time this year.

Dhiren was excited to see me, and I came just in time to help him build his ant for arts and craft time. I shall miss going to bounce and doing the story telling, those kids are soo adoreable.

Ants

After a quick lunch at M&M Cafe, I went down to Sunway where I picked up Loretta who graciously agreed to company me while I wait for my aunts and brother. (Thanks babe). It was a short wait, but I was nervous. I had not seen my brother in like 12 years and well, I didn’t really know what to expect. As his flight arrived and people began walking out, I was wondering if I would even reconize him? And then I saw a guy who looked alittle like him, only much more bulkier. He has been doing weights and working out, and he looked very buff. That was good. I waved to him, and he recgonized me instantly.

His flight was ontime, but my aunts flight out of Singapore into KLIA was delayed so we waited for them, and chatted away. Loretta says Joey and I walk alike. Haha. We talked about Gadgets and stuff, which was quite funny as Loretta and I were having the exact same conversation prior to his arrival, and the conversation just sort of repeated itself.

The aunts finally arrived and we made plans for me to pick them up from thier hotel as we were having a re-union dinner in PJ. The five aunts had a Van to pick them up, and I would send Joey to his hotel. I dropped Loretta off and headed to KL, only to take the wrong exit at the NPE, and headed into Bangsar part of KL and the massive Jam. Jason, who volenteered to help me ferry my aunts with me, had given me directions and with allot of help from him, I finally found my aunts in the Grand Seasons Hotel, in Jalan Pahang.

After my aunts refreshed themselves, we drove through the KL traffic and headed to SS2 to meet my sister and my other 2 aunts. As soon as I parked my car, my sister appeared out of nowhere. Apparently she had just parked her car a few spots next to mine, and my Aunt SeeKoh was staring at my brother trying to figure out who he was. She could not beleive it was him, and even asked me if that was my brother. Haha. The reunion started with hugs and kisses by the roadside, even before we reached the restaurant.

The Restaurant

Then there was much joy and merry making at the restaurant as the family talked and greeted each other. My aunts where overjoyed, and loved the food. They said to me that after the food in Singapore they thought Chinese food tasted terrible, but after eating in Malaysia, the changed thier minds. I told them there is nice food in Singapore, its just very expensive, and the cheap Chinese food in hawker centres were not as nice as the ones in Malaysia.

After the dinner, we all ajourned to the New House Laurent and Tina had bought, where they had a small Machado family tradition of blessing the bride. Each aunts blessed my sister and said a little prayer and we sang a him. I honestly cried and so did every one of my aunts. I was just imagining how it would have been like if my mom was here, and I was so blessed that my 5 aunts where here to represent her.

We left the house after that, Jason and I dropped my brother and aunts back to the hotel, with a day filled with activities planned next….

On this day in History..
