Its definately improving here in Mongolia. Having to work with 2 guys from my Shanghai office, everyday, seein them everyday, I learn so many new words. Not only technical terms, like now I know the Chinese term for Database
I also know so many other words, though I fear I will forget them after the project is over. My memory seems to be failing me these days.
Today 2 more team members join my flock, these 2 from Indonesia. I have been trying very hard to find Muslim food or even a mosque for them, but its not easy man. Almost nobody knows if one exists. Being a project manager, I realize, is not just about technical skills, but people skills, and I must admit, my people skills really suck. I am improving, though, even my boss says so, but still its not easy. This project has been a real test for me, and I fear I may be failing.

I’ll never survive in Mongolia! My chinese is horrendous. Good on you for being able to adapt and learn!
If you’re afraid of forgetting new words, maybe you could try writing them down somewhere? That’s what I do when I learn new terms – if I ever have difficulty remember them, I can just refresh my memory with some notes.
Chris, the Mongolian’s don’t speak Chinese. My Shanghai Staff do
