I have been shanghai-ed

I got up early Sunday morning, 5am. Showered, got dressed, watched a little telly and at 6:15 sharp my Taxi driver Stanley had arrived to pick me up to the airport. It was a quick ride, Sunday traffic being as it is, and we arrived at KLIA around 7:00am. The airport was supprisingly busy, and Stanley told me that its always busy Mornings and Evenings. I checked in, and was told it was gonna be a full flight. A Boeing 777-200! I was excited! Its been a while since I have been on one of those. The silly flights to Beijing has always been a Airbus 330, with really lousy Inflight services. Malaysian Airlines really needs to update its fleet if it plans to be a long term player!! Anyways, I used my new Passport, got inside KLIA had a early morning coffee at Starbucks, and then onwards to Board the plane. I got a nice seat, with the two chairs next to me empty, and within minutes of taking off I was already abusing the Interactive Entertainment service. I watched an episode of House and then 2 movies. Nanny McPhee and The hunchback of Notre Dame. The flight was most confortable and we arrived at 2:20pm. Immigration a breeze, collected my luggage, and was alittle scared to realize there was nobody with a little sign “Nick Tay” or with my company name. I quickly called the person who was suppose to pick me up, and he told me he was only a few miniutes away, I waited patiently and he soon arrived.

Within minutes of boarding his taxi, I relaized quickly that my Mandrin needs much improvement. I mean, we both understood each other most of the time, and the important parts of the conversation took place without much confusion, but when he was trying to tell me about some of the scenes and sights of Shanghai, I realized that I didn’t understand most of what he was saying. The trick is just to say “ahh…”, and not give in that you don’t understand, and it was all good.

Didn’t do much my first night, had a quick dinner, and thats about it. More once the days go by :) Some photo’s bellow.
