Day 3 in Bangkok : Its the journey not the destination

I have learnt one thing about myself today. I have no sence of direction whatsover. If you ever need a partner for the Amazing Race, don’t look for me! I suck at reading a map! I got lost trying to find Chinatown 3 times, even with a Map, I managed to get lost. I did however find some amazing and interesting places, all by accident, as I had no attention of visiting them, so I guess that old cliche is true. It is the journey not the destination that matters.

In the morning, I decided not to get up that early, and sleep in. I am on holiday after all, so at 9am, I finally got out of bed, gotten ready and left the haven of Khoa San road. I walked to the museum, glad to find it was open, and spent most of the morning at the amazing place. Loretta was right, it is amazing. The onwards to the great swing, which was kinda dissapointing, but the Wat, next to it, was pretty cool. Back to Khoa San for lunch, changed back to shorts as, you needed to wear long pants if you want to visit specific wats. Next was Chinatown, I left at 1pm, only to reach there at 3pm. In my defence, I did enjoy the flower market I saw on the way, and it was really worth getting lost there.

Chinatown, as YiHuey said it would be was amazing. She insisted I go, and I am glad I listen to hear, she knows her stuff when it comes to travelling. Soo many stalls there, and I even saw 2 people I reconized. One was this vendor who sells things on Khoa San road. She is very pretty and reminds me of one of my closest friends, WeiYun, hence I remembered he face. The next person was, amazingly, the man who sat next to me on the train ride from penang. Not the malay man, but the chinese one who I has asked about the food train. What a small world eh.

I left Chinatown, and was gonna go back to Khoa San road, when I saw a sign that said 600m to Golden Mountian. 600m didn’t seem that far, but I think they had measured the distance, assuming there were no buildings in between the two points, as the walk definately seems to be more than 600m. I was tempted to follow the map I had instead of the signboards as they seem to be pointing in diferrent directions, but I decided the people who put up the signboards must have better skills than me, especially when it comes to reading maps.

A left, a right, follow the arrow, they show you where to go. Arrows says left, arrow says right. Arrows lead you to Golden Mountian, and up those stairs. The climb was easy, compared to Batu Caves, and the view from the top was not dissapointing. It was well worth the climb! I took tons of pictures, and recorded a cool video. There was a group from China who made the journey to the top to pray, and I was there to capture the event on digital media. A kodak moment for sure, but who used Kodak anymore? A devotee saw me taking pictures, and asked me to take a picture of him praying. I gladly obliged.

Walked back to Khoa San, had dinner, took a shower and took in a movie. Bought a ticket for a tour tomorrow, bring me to the floating market and other places. Hope to meet more interesting people.
