Doing a BBq is tiring
March 25th, 2006 by Nick Tay
In case you don’t already know, I attend GTPJ, which is a Cell Church, and I help out in the youth ministry. Basicly, I am the adult supervision at a secondary cell group which has about 25 people ages from 12-17. We had a poolside BBq last night, part of the church wide Cell Fun Night campaign, to invite our friends to join cell groups. Our Cell, the SS2A Secondary Cell, decided to have a poolside BBq party, and yours truely was the BBq-er. My goodness its hard work and it was so tiring! I arrrived there early, after a full day at the church office helping to finalize the presentation video for church today. I then rushed to Jaya Supermarket to buy chicken, then rush home to marinate it. My special flavour, Kraft Bbq Sause with Cajun spices. Then had to pick up Delaine (one of my cell members), and onwards to Lynn’s home (the scene of the BBq). Tried to start the fire, only to realize they didn’t have firestarters OR matches! We borrowed a lighter from the guards at the apartment but ended up breaking the thing! Stress! Had to quickly drive out to purchase firestarters and 3 lighters (1 to replace the guards one, and the other 2 for us).
Got the fire started finally, then relaized they didn’t have a proper fan to fan the flames of the Charcoal fire! Had to use a paperplate, which is not the best fans in the world. Oh! And the gril was sooo dirty! It has like grease and muck from previous BBq’s, so I had to scrub the grill clean before I could start cooking. Had about 70 peices of chicken to cook, and we also had tons of other food like sandwiches, pasta, nuggets, coldslaw, mash patatoes and fries. We ended up with WAY to much food and have like 1/3 of it to the guards to eat.
Worship was done in the baby pool, which was actually quite fun! We also did out skit on the prodigal son in the baby pool as well. We had a good crowd, 3 new commers to the cell, and some of the new members also started to open up and bond.

Then came the cleaning up! Had to put back the tables and chairs, clean up the mess and also the BBq pit. I tried my very best to put the place back to its pre-event state, but a BBq pit leaves a mess. Plus at 11pm, when your muscles ache, its abit hard to scrub as hard as you did before. Sent a few people home. and slept like a baby.
Delaine and Kae Mern (the cell leaders), thanked me for all the help I provided, and I felt to appriciated. I love youth ministry.
