YHH, the honored guest blogger of the day..
November 14th, 2005 by YHH
My fourth guest blogger is my good friend and ex-co-worker YHH. She joined the company maybe 2 weeks after I did, and though we were not the closest of friends at first, we soon became the best of friends. I must say that from all the adventures we had together, Dhaka Bangladesh will be the turning point in our friendship. Since she left the office, things have never been the same :-

I am honored to be given the opportunity to pen a few words on this very-happening-blog of yours, unlike other blogs which I dare call them the ‘white elephants’. This camera-savvy guy loves to decorate his blog with snapshots. Well, a picture tells a thousand words.
Where should I start? Lets go back to Unit 1. Our very first project at that time was the initial introduction of Nick. I remembered I had to move from Unit 1 to 2 and vice versa. Nick was a happy-go-lucky and cheerful lad. He was always humming song lyrics all the time and it has become a trademark of him
We had lots of fun working together.
Sound of Music was his favorite. And speaking of SOM, that often reminds me of something dreadful I did: I borrowed his SOM, Mary Poppins and Grease for more than a year!! Hey! actually many things happened, and I had every solid reasons for it, OK? Hahaha!! Thankfully, benevolent Nick did not scold me badly.
Nevertheless, in the end the CD was returned back to him, safe and sound.
The most unforgettable memory of Nick was during the three week trip to Bangladesh, my very first taste of developing country. We had lots of ups and downs but personally it was one of the most enjoyable and adventurous trips I had ever made.

(Bangladesh Flag)
‘The embossing machine that meows’ might sound peculiar to most of you, but let me explain. The incident took place in the client’s office. Nick was working in a room that housed this big machine, faithfully churning out cards, a few PCs and high-speed printers. As he was working, he heard a meowing kitten somewhere in the office. Hoping that the sound might fade away soon, he continued his task, but the persistent, nerve-racking kitten’s meow really annoyed him.
Determined to track down the kitten, he examined the room over and over and found no kittens! Baffled he was, but the truth dawn to him that there were no kittens what-so-ever. The meowing noise came from the embossing machine. Nick was overwhelmed to have uncovered the mystery. Hence has named it ‘the embossing machine that meows’ when relating the mystery to me.

(Streets of Dhaka)
There were various other interesting incidents – ‘tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree’. I did not know the actual lyrics of this evergreen song. So when we heard the song at the buffet dinner, Nick instantly sprung into his lyric-guessing-game. When I read the lyrics, I went something like ‘tie a yellow ribbon round the Ho-ho tree !!’Much to Nick’s amusement he corrected me and we both ended up laughing endlessly throughout the buffet! Each time when I heard this song over Light & Easy, I will smile away. Even now, I am smiling as I am blogging this out.

(the amazing traffic)
‘Text Twister? Twist Text? Or was it Twisted Text? Whatever it is, just pass me your pocket PC. I wanna play that Twister thingy!!’ I could never get the right name but Nick knows what I meant and would let me devour in that seven-letter-word game. Those were days where simple entertainment like this was superb. Ahh… I think it was Text Twist. Uh huh!!
Nick loves tea. He takes in 2 dosages of iced tea daily to make his day. And the tea has to be prepared according to Nick’s method and served with the Coca-cola jug! It was amazing how he had always got the measurement of ice and hot water filled so accurately into that Coca-cola jug of his. Hahaha!! He also taught me that microwave wave doesn’t stay on the food. The wave merely activate the food molecules and cook the food.
It was always cold and lonely when one has to work throughout the midnight supporting the business in this world of IT. A fact that all involved in IT has to accept. Nick stayed back and fetched me home on one occasion when I had to work overnight in the office all alone by myself due to critical production problem. He headed back to office from another client site in the wee hour to keep me company till dawn. Truly he is a friend who will go all the way to help you out when you needed it most.
Nick is a gem! There were uncountable good memories throughout our friendship. We have been through all the ups and downs. This made the friendship even stronger. Most importantly, I am glad that I have been part of Nick’s memory. Hey Nick! Now that you are in Mongolia, I wish you all the best and take care of your health especially during the cold pre-Mongolian winter climate.
Hey! How was Chip?? ![]()
