Today Wedding Bells Will Ring….

June 17th, 2005 by Nick Tay

Well, technically, our church has no bells that clang to announce to the world that 2 people have been joined in holy matrimony, but still, there is much exhilaration in the air. I am excited! Can you tell? And I am sure many others who know the bride and groom are as well. Its a classic love story, 2 people who were high school sweethearts, dating since they were 13, are finally tying that faithfull knot. Kelvin and Luisa are both 1 year younger than me, that means they have been dating for 12 years now! Wow. What a run.

I am a sucker for weddings, really, I am. I anxiosly wait, for the bride to walk down that aisle, with her crew of flower girls, little boys and fair maidens. A sence of warmth fills the church, The Master of Ceremonies announces the arrival of rhe bride, everybody stands up, welcoming her, the music plays, the bridal march begins. The ceremony goes on, the future couple signes the registration book, the Father gives the bride away, and then we come to the most exciting part. The pastor will say “A ring, a complete circle, a symbol of un-ending love, until broken by an external force, shall be the symbol of your love”. They exchange vows. “With This Ring, I take thee to be my faithfull husband/wife, to love, to honour, to cherish, till death to us part”. “You may now kiss the bride”, and the crowd cheers!

In this age of shattered families and broken marriages, the promiss of “Death Do Us Part” still gleams of hope, for me at least. I believe in Marriage! Always have, always will.

On this day in History..
