Unclear of the concept…….

March 18th, 2005 by Nick Tay

Don’t you just hate it when people just don’t get it? When they don’t see things the way they are but live in a perfect world. At work, in my line of business there is allot of paperwork before any maintenance or activity can be done on Production Machines. This is because we are dealing with money, and these machines are designed to run 24X7. Hence you can just let anybody into the server room and start tinkering around with them. You need to be escorted into a biometrically secure room, have somebody from Data Security shadow your every move, and even the password is held by 2 people, from different departments, so that no 1 person can get access anytime without accountability.

Then comes along this annoying little girl, whose job is to monitor the status of issues. She submitted a request to have the machine rebooted yesterday evening, after business hours, and today she calls me and asks “What’s the status?”. That would be fine, but when I tell her the paperwork is being processed by the relevant departments (IT, Data Security and Change Management), she says “It only takes a few minutes to reboot the machine”. My reply was “Hello, Do you think this is your fathers Bank?, I can’t reboot the machine anytime I want”. Her reply was “Can’t you just go into the server room and do it?”. To which my reply was “My Dear Miss. CL, I can’t even enter the room, which is in a building 30KM from here, in Tropicana. Do you think I can go to the keyboard and press Ctrl-Alt-Del?”.
The frustration!! I tell you, some of these little girls and boys have never ever been onsite before. They are shielded from the real world, by the walls of their cubicles. Sigh! Will they ever learn? Send them to Ambank I say! Let them feel the heat. You don’t know how hot the pot is, till you get your fingers scaled! Muahahahahaha.
Evil Nick shows his wrath!

Weight Lost Update…….

Two Indian ladies in two different buildings of Ambank made my day today. I hardly ever talk to either one of them, as they are not really in the IT Team, but today while waiting for an elevator, one of AmBank’s customer service staff says to me “You have lost allot of weight! The stress at Ambank getting to you?”. I smiled, thanked her and said “Yeah! Very much so”. Then later that same hour when I arrived at a different Ambank building, another girl goes “Nick, You have lost allot of weight! You sick issit”. Then I told her that it was Doctor’s orders. She goes, “Yeah, I heard about your back injury”. I have been stationed here so long that I am famous or Infamous rather. That’s not really a good thing! Hmmm…
Latest weight: - 80kg! 2 More to go to reach my target! Woohoo!!

Of other Things……

I have no internet access while at Ambank anymore. No more blog updates or email until I get back home or to my office. Such tragedy! How can I survive! I have so many emails to reply in a day, and if I can do them gradually in a day, but as a batch at night, things are gonna be crazy! Argh!!

On this day in History..
