The Meaning Behind Words
October 30th, 2003 by Nick Tay
Do you mean what you say? It may be just me but I find people use some words freely, as if they don’t really understand what they mean. We live in a world where we say what we think we feel, or what we think we mean without totally understanding what impact they have on others.
Watch your thoughts; they become words.
Watch your words; they become actions.
Watch your actions; they become habits.
Watch your habits; they become character.
Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.
[True Story] Somebody I know said “I Love You” to his girlfriend after like 3 dates. Don’t get me wrong, I am glad he can verbalize his emotions, most guys can’t. But 3 dates? Come on? Love means something, and I don’t seriously think you can fall in love with somebody after 3 evenings watching movies and drinking coffee. Suprise suprise, 4 days later, they broke up. And the girl was shocked, hurt and well, pissed off.
True, teenagers live a life very different that us who work, or those who have ended our puberty stage, but Grown Adults have been known to make the same mistakes as well. Why can’t we think before we speak.
Don’t get me wrong. I am not standing on some moral high ground. I have said some stupid things in my life, in an a moment of anger, or simply because I though It was funny. But I doubt I have confessed my romantic love for somebody I barely knew.
Sorry about that, just alittle upset with the news of my friend.
7All kinds of animals, birds, reptiles and creatures of the sea are being tamed and have been tamed by man, 8but no man can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison.
