Well, it was more like a Lunch Time Journey than A day off, but Thats the only title that came to mind. I am running out of inspiration. Anyhoo, onwards with our story.
Yesterday Miss Thuy insisted that we have Lunch outdoors, and seing that I needed some new adventures to write about, I agreed. I needed to leave the building and get some sunshine once in a while.
Miss Thuy came into the server room at Lunch time and asked me if I wanted Seafood or Indian, and my eyes light up as only a Chindian Guy like Nick Tay can! For Once I get a chance at playing host, and giving the locals here alitle taste of home. Thuy agreed, and we were off. Thuy, Duc, Me and a vietnamese guy whos name I can never remember. He always comes along when we need to drive somewhere cos he’s got a car.
Anyhoo, we drove and we past a school and as chance would have it, school was out. The streets were filled with kids on bicycles paddling away. It was a great sight, but my camera only manange to get this one great shot. The rest were allitle off. I love my camera, but it respondes allitle to slow. Ah the future of vietnam.
We parked the car ablock a way and proceded to walk on the streets of Old Town. It was filled with shops selling shoes, art works, gifts, people selling fruits. In short a must see for the visitor to Hanoi.
And then we arrived. Tandoor. One of the two indian restaurants in Hanoi, both owned by the same man. Who says chinese are the only one good at business
. We sat down and I did the ordering. I was alittle worried that they could not take the spice, so I ordered the following dishes.
Kalmi Kebab
– Chicken Legs marinated in a rich yogurt, cream and spices grilled in a Open Oven
Mix Veg Curry
– Mix vegatables in curry Sauce
Baingan Bartha
– Spiced eggplant delicacy
Chicken Korma
– A cashewnut based mild, chicken curry, flavoured with nutmeg
Saag Gosht
– Mutton cooked with spinash and spices
Jhinga Vindaloo
– Shripms cooked in a vindaloo gravy
Nan
– Unleaven flour Bread
I thought that my choices were okay, mix of Real indian food, but to my dismay, you can take a horse to water but you can’t make him drink. In other words, you can take A Vietnamese person to an Indian restaurant, but that does not mean they are gonna like it. The only thing they really liked was the Nan. hehe…They found the Shirps too spicy, but they were not spicy at all!! They liked the Mutton, but not enough to finish it. So I ended up eating most of it, and doggy baging it for dinner tonight.
Lunch time conversation was funny. Duc asked me “Do they ray beep in Indian?”. To which I was like “Whats Ray Beep?”. She then said something to Thuy, who then asked me “Do they Rays Cow in Indian?”. Ahhhh…”Yes, they have Cows.”. I had to explain to them that though Hindu is the largest religion in India, there are other religions as well. Sometimes, I think they need to experinces other cultures.
Anyways, thats todays Adventure.
